South Bay Labor Council Endorses Clark Williams for City Council

September 19, 2006 — Willow Glen, CA — Clark Williams earned the sole endorsement of the South Bay AFL-CIO Labor Council Committee on Public Education (COPE) in his campaign for the San Jose City Council, District 6.

“Clark understands that our neighborhoods are the foundation for San Jose’s working families,” said Phaedra Ellis-Lamkins, Executive Officer of the South Bay Labor Council. “He will be a strong voice on the City Council for families, neighborhoods and government accountability.”

“Clark is a proven leader. As Vice President of the North Willow Glen Neighborhood Association and as a local non-profit executive, he has demonstrated his commitment to the future of San Jose,” said Ron Lind, President of United Food and Commercial Workers, Local 428.

“I am honored to receive the sole endorsement of the South Bay Labor Council,” said Clark. “I appreciate their confidence in my abilities to serve the families and neighborhoods of District 6.”

In March of this year, Clark was given a commendation by the City of San Jose for his deep commitment to serving the community. Clark serves as Vice President of the North Willow Glen Neighborhood Association, a member of the San Jose Appeals Hearing Board, Vice Chair of the Measure F Bond Oversight Committee for the San Jose Unified School District and was an original member of the San Jose Sunshine Reform Task Force.

Clark has been widely recognized for his service as the interim Executive Director of the Billy DeFrank Center -- helping the struggling community center emerge from some of its toughest financial times.

The South Bay Labor Council joins a growing list of organizations, elected leaders and District 6 community members supporting Clark Williams for City Council. He has received the support of current District 6 Councilmember Ken Yeager, the League of Conservation Voters, the Santa Clara County Democratic Party, Assemblymembers Sally Lieber and John Laird, Assessor Larry Stone and over 10 different neighborhood association leaders.

Clark, his partner James Moore and their 3-year-old daughter, Caroline, live in the Willow Glen neighborhood of San Jose. Election Day is Tuesday, November 7.
